BTS's ARIRANG Hits 5 Billion Spotify Streams, 2 Billion Clear of Every Other 2026 Album

BTS's fifth studio album ARIRANG has passed 5 billion Spotify streams, BigHit Music said on October 14, 2026. Released March 20, it got there in about seven months and leads every other 2026 album by roughly 2 billion streams, with Olivia Rodrigo's third album in second place.

That gap is the story. A year in which Bruno Mars and Harry Styles both released new albums, and each has gathered somewhere between 1 billion and 2 billion Spotify streams according to BigHit's comparison, still has one record sitting on a different floor. The group that made it had not released a new album in about three years and nine months, because all seven members were completing South Korea's mandatory military service.

How fast did ARIRANG reach 5 billion?

From release day to BigHit's announcement is 208 days. The album passed 110 million Spotify streams on its release day, March 20, per The Korea Times, and lead track SWIM is now approaching 1 billion on its own.

The depth matters as much as the peak. Every one of the 14 tracks has passed 200 million streams, including No. 29, a track built only from the tolling of the Sacred Bell of King Seongdeok, a Silla Dynasty bronze bell. A bell recording does not reach 200 million plays on algorithmic luck. That is a fanbase playing the whole record, front to back, for months.

The US chart picture lines up: ARIRANG topped the Billboard 200 for three consecutive weeks, The Korea Times reports.

Where does it sit in BTS's own catalog?

Seven months in, ARIRANG is already the group's fourth most-streamed album on Spotify, ahead of records that have had six years or more to accumulate. Kworb's album tally, as of October 2026:

What does a decade of fandom buy on return?

The usual rule of pop is that a long absence costs you. ARIRANG argues the opposite, at least for a fanbase as organized as ARMY. The waiting did not drain attention; it stored it. When the members came back, that stored demand landed on day one and kept landing, and the label's own numbers show where else it went.

A world stadium tour opened April 9 at Goyang Stadium and was announced at 79 shows across 34 regions, per NME, with dates added since. The South American leg brings 11 shows across five cities, from Bogotá's Estadio El Campín to São Paulo's Morumbi, which holds more than 72,000, per Sports Kyunghyang. HYBE reported second-quarter concert revenue up 243.3% year on year to KRW 647.7 billion, and recorded music revenue up 43.0%, led by ARIRANG, per MBW.

It also arrives against the grain of the wider market. MBW's analysis found that new-release streams on Spotify's weekly Global Top 200 fell 24.8% year on year in the first nine months of 2026, while older catalog took a larger share. Listening to new music is getting harder to win, a trend we tracked in streaming's slowdown to single-digit growth. ARIRANG won it anyway, and by a margin built over years of the group and its fans showing up for each other, the same instinct behind the superfan economy the industry keeps trying to package.

What comes next is the awards season the album will skip: the members have said they will not submit music for the 2027 Grammys, writing, “We hope music can be heard and loved for what it is.” For the runner-up, see how Olivia Rodrigo built her third album in our report on its making. For BTS, the count keeps running at roughly 12 million plays a day.
