Cover Star on Day One: snake the drain Launched Devon Again Atop New Music Daily

A major-label debut single can slip out quietly and hope to build. Devon Again's did the opposite. snake the drain launched atop Apple Music's New Music Daily with Devon as the playlist's cover star, the kind of first-day placement that signals a label going all in.

Debut Single
#1 New Music Daily · cover-star launch on Apple Music

The weight behind the rollout

The placement made sense in context. In May 2026, Devon Again became the second artist ever signed to Dan Nigro's Amusement Records at Interscope, after Chappell Roan. When a label with that track record puts its second-ever signing at the front of New Music Daily, it is a statement about where they think the artist is going.

From In Order to the majors

snake the drain did not arrive from nowhere. Her 2025 EP In Order was, per The FADER's GEN F profile, her true breakout, and its cherry cola video was SPIN's number four music video of 2025. The major-label debut was the escalation of momentum that already existed, not a cold start.

A cover-star launch is a label's way of saying the quiet part out loud: this is the one.

The base was already there

The label confidence had years of receipts behind it. Devon's debut single Suburbia, produced by Cameron Hale and released in July 2021, passed 5 million Spotify streams and seeded the fanbase. Her 2022 EP PEE earned cover placement on Spotify's alternative flagship playlist Lorem, sharing that real estate with Billie Eilish, Harry Styles, beabadoobee and Clairo. By the time Amusement came calling, Devon Again was not a bet on potential. She was an artist with a proven streaming base and a critical profile, which is exactly the kind of signing a label puts at the front of New Music Daily.

What it sets up

The single is the opening move of a much larger year. Devon spends 2026 and 2027 as direct support on Olivia Rodrigo's 65-date Unraveled arena tour, which means snake the drain is not just a debut. It is the calling card she carries into arenas across two continents.
