A Dying Wish, Answered: One Fan's Story With Christian Gates

Five years ago, a 16-year-old girl found Christian Gates through a song called “fvck night.” She never expected that discovery would carry her through the darkest stretch of her life.

The years between 17 and 19 were brutal. She describes deep depression, abuse, and nights spent staring at the stars, begging the universe for one thing: a chance to see Christian Gates live, just once, before she let herself go. On the worst nights, that single wish became a reason to stay.

I can't die yet, I have to see him live first.

The Night It Finally Happened

Last year, at 20 years old, she got her wish. But by then, everything had changed. She wasn't the girl pleading with the sky anymore. She wanted to live.

Standing in the crowd, screaming the same lyrics she used to scream alone in her car at 3 a.m., something broke open. Tears streamed down her face through the whole set. She says she talked about the show nonstop before it happened and hasn't stopped talking about it since.

Then came the part she still struggles to believe: meeting Christian Gates and Dutch Melrose face to face after the show.

A Second Chance to Watch Him Perform

She expected years to pass before she'd get another opportunity like that. Instead, Christian Gates is returning this year, landing a show just a day after her birthday. She calls it thanking her lucky stars.

Her message, in the end, comes back to gratitude: for the music that held her together when nothing else did, for a few minutes of real connection at the meet and greet, and for an artist who showed up and performed like it mattered.
