Slush Puppy runs two careers at once and barely lets them touch. As Sam Catalano, he built a genre-agnostic solo project out of viral singles like EAT SPIT! while quietly becoming an in-demand writer-producer credited on releases for HYBE's CORTIS and TXT.
The viral front
The solo work is loud, weird and his own. San Diego-raised and Los Angeles-based, Slush Puppy has spent six years releasing loosies and features while building a signature that refuses to sit in one genre. EAT SPIT! is the kind of single that travels on personality, and it made his name in public.
Behind the boards
The other career is invisible on purpose. Slush Puppy writes and produces for major K-pop acts, with credits on HYBE releases including CORTIS and TOMORROW X TOGETHER. It is a rarefied room, and the fact that a viral solo artist quietly operates inside it says everything about his range.
The LA circle
His come-up ran through the same tight Los Angeles scene that produced a generation of alt and pop artists, the Roxy stages, the Live2 orbit, and a lasting friendship with Royal & the Serpent. That circle, which also drew in Christian Gates and the wider On The Rocks crowd, is where Slush Puppy sharpened both halves of his craft.
One name, two jobs: the artist you can hear, and the producer you cannot.
Even the name is a workaround
The double life extends to the handle. The literal name Slush Puppy is owned by someone else asking a high price for it, so Catalano works around it as SLPY, the name minus its vowels, while the underlying URL stays consistent everywhere. It is a fittingly resourceful detail for an artist whose entire catalog is self-produced or built with a small circle of trusted collaborators rather than a major-label writing room. He cites David Bowie, The Cure and George Michael as touchstones for attitude and presentation while noting they sound nothing like his actual music, and he told Alternative Press that the genre is simply himself. The Live2 pipeline that first pulled him toward Los Angeles is the same one that drew Christian Gates up from Orange County, one more thread tying him to the circle he came up in.
The full-length ahead
As of 2026 Slush Puppy releases through MDDN Records, calls himself independent by choice, and is preparing his first full-length body of work after years of singles and placements. Whichever version of him it foregrounds, it will be built by someone who has already proven he can do both.
